SAFEA, Chinese government agency that handles work permit and residency permit have new rules for employers. Those who have foreign workers are suggested to start minimum 30 days before for the work permit renewal process before the work permit expires. The rule is applicable from February 28th, 2018 onwards. The agency said that it takes around 15 days for the renewal process of work permit and seven working days for the residency permit. It might take five extra days in case the company hasn’t registered for the renewal of their online system. There can be festivals and national holidays in between too. Since the employer will have to apply under the newest process, they need to fill an application and submit it to the labor bureau. Documents that the employer will have to attach to the application are residence permit, passport, labor contract, and current work permit of the employee. In case, you, an employer, is planning to sponsor the visa, the process is even bigger. You will have to get the employee’s notarized university degree, medical test, criminal record check, and a proof of employment. According to the website, they say it might take around three to four weeks, but if there’s too much traffic, it can take as much as three months. R-visa China has finally opened its door to attract top talent in different sectors. The State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, Ministry of Public Security, and Foreign Affairs Ministry jointly started the Foreign Talent visa or the R-visa. It will be given to individuals with exceptional talent and their spouse and children, a visa for five or ten years. It is a multiple entry visa, and the visa holder can stay in the country for only three months at a time. To be eligible for this visa, you need to six times more than the average wage of China.
