Big step towards migration taken By B.C.Around 800 immigrants have been invited to apply for the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program as recorded on 12th October 2016. This flexibility towards inviting immigrants gives a clear indication that the province is looking to fill serious holes as there is a lack of skilled labor force. Again, the international graduates were the most targeted by this idea and 335 out of 805 invitations were given to them.

The minimum score required in all the categories is 80 except for Entry Level and Semi-Skilled category, which has the minimum score of 50. Total 805 invitations were issued with a variation of a number in all the categories. The main target of the Provincial Nominee Program would be to fill their federal government gaps. An announcement is expected in November when Federal Immigration Minister John McCallum will reveal the level of invitations in 2017.

B.C.’s plans to intake the majority of Skilled Workers keeping the level to 35% to 45%, @5% percent for Express Entry and 10% to 15% for the International Graduates, whereas, the province government plans to set the limits of Entry Level and Skilled Workers from 10% to 15% along with the Entrepreneur Stream taking 2% to 5%.

The Province has issued the minimum marks that will guarantee an invite for the candidate. Though they may change in the minimum scores in the future, the current scores can be considered as the target for ambitious migrants.  The required score is given as 135 for Skilled Worker, 105 for International Graduate, 95 for Entry Level and Semi-Skilled.

The Province also demands for the same immigration powers as Quebec. Quebec sets its own number of immigrant quotas, which is currently 50,000 and may increase in the future. The Business Council of British Columbia has set the goals to giving more points to the Canadian Experience Class to international student graduates, raising the caps from 47,800 to 80, 000 by 2020 on Provincial Nominee Program and also introducing a skilled visa exclusively for technology talent.
